Dog ownership has changed in many ways, or should I say the people owning dogs has changed. In the old days, training fields would be packed with dogs and their owners running drills and passing exams. The social media movement has impacted dog training just as much as it has other areas and all the information you need (good and bad) can be found online. Now there are 1001 ways to train your dog. Online courses are very useful for owners to get inspired and refocused. At some point though your individual dog with it's individual personality is not going to follow the video plan. Inperson training with a trainer is not just useful for ensuring you are getting your timing and reward system correct, but they can push you further to really progress your dogs skills. It is also good to see and hear other dog owners so you know it's not just your experiences (again, good and bad) and certain doggie behaviour is more common than you think. Whether you choose to do online learning or inperson classes or a mixture of both, they will only work with consistent practice by yourself at home and in public.
