You may have in the past, seen dogs being walked in muzzles and given them a wide berth as it was usually associated with aggressive dogs. We now have a situation that a whole community of dog owners are having to walk some of the sweetest dogs in muzzles due to restrictions within the law. This has shown us how quickly life can change and how it is vital for us to have our beloved pets ready for any situation. This was also highlighted during the pandemic when we couldn't go into the vets with our pets and they had to go inside and be examined without us present. God forbid, that our dogs are ever in an accident or badly injured somehow and in such pain that for safety reasons they need to be muzzled. Not only would the dog be in pain and distressed but this new restrictive addition of equipment would intensify this stressful situation. It is, therefore, extremely vital that we train muzzles and other equipment effectively and positively. Short, upbeat training sessions that are then generalised to all areas will give your dog the confidence to accept muzzles, collars or harnesses no matter what the context.
